The New White House Designer

Posted by Ann Porter, CKD on January 14, 2009

The Obamas have named Michael S. Smith as their Interior Designer for the White House interiors.

Smith is known for his inventive style of mixing Old World classicism with very contemporary settings.

His style can be called a blend of European tradition and American modernism. The result is a comfortable elegance, a non-theatrical look that is ultimately very understated in its presentation.           Congratulations Michael!

according to the Today show his budget is $100,000

  2. Michael S. Smith’s work is beautiful. And in other areas of the White House “home,” will be interesting to see if they pursue the idea of an organic vegetable garden…

  3. I was delighted to learn that Smith will probably be using some pop sources like Restoration Hardware, Anthropologie and Pottery Barn, a few of my favorites. It’s refreshing — and quite timely — to see a populist approach to celebrity design.
